Product Overview: Megger MIT515 Insulation Resistance Tester
Megger MIT515 Insulation Resistance Tester
The MIT515 offers selectable test voltages from 250 to 5000 V and a CATIV 600 V safety rating. It can operate on AC line power if the battery is low. As the most basic model in Megger’s MIT series of insulation resistance testers, it supports testing up to 5 kV and 10 TΩ resistance. The unit includes various user-friendly features for daily professional use.
Equipped with fast-recharge lithium-ion batteries, the MIT515 can fully charge in 2.5 hours and provide 6 hours of operation. A 30-minute charge allows for approximately 1 hour of use. The unit can also run directly from AC line power if needed.
The large, clear display is easy to read in both bright and dim lighting conditions, ensuring visibility of key metrics such as resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery status, and elapsed test time. This eliminates the need for a separate timer.
The MIT515’s dual-layer, fire-retardant casing provides rugged protection, earning the unit an IP65 rating for resistance against dust, dirt, and water. The outer case is designed to withstand drops and impacts.
While the MIT515 lacks certain advanced features like Auto SV, DD tests, ramp test, USB/RS232 data output, and compatibility with PowerDB software, it remains highly capable for specific applications. It can perform tests at voltages from 250 V to 5 kV, with selectable increments from 50 V to 1 kV (in 10 V steps) and from 1 kV to 5 kV (in 25 V steps).
The unit can measure voltage, capacitance (with time constant), and leakage current. Additional features include timer control, 3mA test currents, alarm limit mode, and a user-defined lock voltage range. Its noise rejection handles 3mA with 2% error, guarding against 500 kΩ leakage with a 100 MΩ load.
The MIT515 provides three preset voltage ranges for insulation testing, plus a user-settable lock voltage option for efficient commissioning and repetitive tests. Preconfigured diagnostic tests include Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), and Dielectric Discharge (DD).
